Trenton On Track To Surpass Its 2020 Fatal Shootings Record

Trenton is on track to break last year's record number of fatal shootings in the city as well as homicides in general, authorities said.

The capital city recently stepped up street patrols to curb escalating violence. A fatal shooting late Wednesday occurred about 50 yards from Trenton patrol officers' vehicle stationed near Donnelly Homes public housing, as reported here Thursday. 

In all of 2020, Trenton suffered 40 homicides, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office:  A total of 36 of the confirmed murders were attributed to fatal shootings.

In the first nine-and-a-half months of this year, there have been 30 confirmed homicides of which 29 were fatal shootings, the prosecutor's office said Friday.
